For those of you that have completed step 1 of the Plan Process, you are just encouraged to stop and take a breather. I know creating a plan has been challenging because I was right there with you. If you are in the midst of creating a plan or need more encouragement to get started, I have a few pointers for you.
As I’ve shared, it is important to get a journal or durable notepad that you can maintain. I went to Barnes and Noble and selected a hardback 8 ½ x 11 journal that simply says “Create” on the outside. When I brought it home, I became a little intimidated by it. I had started to write out my plan prior to buying the journal and realized that I was going to fill up the new journal; the idea of the entire process became a little overwhelming. I didn’t let that stop me and I opened the journal and just started to write. When I first started writing, it was a bit difficult. I was questioning how honest I was really going to be and realized that it required me to be totally honest. Just seeing some of the areas written down in the journal validated that they were real, even if I had shared them with others and they didn’t agree. Your process may be different. However, my personal process was to assign titles to sections of my life. Since I had combined areas that were not intended to be combined, I had a distorted perception life. Therefore, I needed to see everything separated to truly get to the root of the problem. For example, I assigned the first section and labeled it as God and another section that was labeled as family. I was compelled to assign God His section first because I realized that I needed to get right with him before I could do anything else. I had also allowed the actions of other people to reflect in my relationship with God and when I removed other people from the category of God, it validated the fact that He alone is God.
The first time I wrote out my plan, there were just a few items for each section. I wrote them out and prayed about it. The next day, I opened up the journal and was able to release more. I am finding that it is an ongoing process. As I review my plan daily, I am able to release more. I am being freed to assign action steps to areas that were hidden.
